Project Miraflores in Ecuador – Bupa and Fundacion Martha Estrella

We are very grateful to be selected for the 2009 BUPA International Challenge, and absolutely thrilled with the opportunity to work together towards making Project Miraflores a reality. This project will significantly improve the living and health conditions of the members of the rural community of Miraflores in Ecuador, located one hour south of Quito. We will establish a Center for Children and Youth Development providing access to better childcare facilities, more advanced educational tools and improved medical preventive care, to a community of more than 60 very poor families, who currently live with less than $6 a day per family.

Fundacion Martha Estrella is focused on helping new generations improve their social and economic conditions to reduce poverty in vulnerable communities in Ecuador, and Project Miraflores represents a stepping stone in this wonderful journey. It brings me great pleasure to know that the community of Miraflores is getting this center. Miraflores is a small village full of generous and humble people, whom through this project, will make their dreams of a better life come true. This project will open up opportunities that will serve to create future generations of leaders, and will serve as a model to replicate in other communities in need. We strongly believe that the children that we are helping now will be the ones giving back and continuing this journey later.

We are again very thankful for this opportunity that BUPA has given us and we look forward to working together on this project.
